No war happens in a vacuum.
Identifying what the geopolitical context is where war happens doesn’t mean justifying it, nor does it mean suddenly supporting any side that’s committing atrocities.
Just like we are allowed to analyze history and connect the dots between certain events and forces, we are allowed to do that when we talk about the ongoing war in Ukraine.

Medea Benjamin is an author and co-founder of CODEPINK. Nicolas J. S. Davies is an independent journalist, a researcher with CODEPINK, co-author of War in Ukraine: Making Sense of a Senseless Conflict, and the author of Blood On Our Hands: the American Invasion and Destruction of Iraq. He is the former foreign editor of the Daily Mirror, and has been a peace activist for more than 50 years.
