While I lay in my bed trying to decide to get up or wait a while longer - the luxury of a retired life - my mind was asking so many questions for which I have no answers.
Your poems have so eloquently articulated my feelings.
Will humans ever recover from this immense pain?
Even when I close my ears and eyes from the scene of horror that flash before me, I can only imagine what a mother of a young baby/ child feels what she sees, an old grandparent grieving after burying their grandchildren. A child with an empty bowl in his hand with an unsaid question written on his face. “You adults ! What have I done to deserve this from you?”
How will we humans who live in the lap of luxury just a few miles from this catastrophic disaster recover from this?
The money that comes from this enterprise of WMDs will stay on earth while you go down in the pit empty-handed. All those names of killers of children of war are only mentioned in disgust and shame when we do.

Ahmed the horror of war in Gaza and the West Bank is traumatising you.
The pain,
the mass destruction,
the mass killing,
the loss and grief.
Ultimately you’re in pain. There is a psychological effect that just watching others being subjected to pain and trauma creates the same trauma in the observer.
I find myself getting numb to the endless headlines of all the killing, destruction and starvation.
It’s overwhelming.
It mad.
It’s insane.
You must take care of your mental health. Take time out to remind yourself of the sweetness of life. Nature can help, to see how rooted in the now and in that place each tree is. Check in with friends. Do stuff that you enjoy. We need to keep on keeping on, we have to. Take care.

“Or did centuries of human greed, exploitation, and cruelty finally catch up to us?”
Yes, it has.
The Native Americans call it Wetiko, a mind virus. The idea that it’s ok to cannibalise each other and the planet for our own gain, endlessly. They could see the whites were sick with it, mad with it.
When you start to view history and our actions today, especially in Gaza and West Bank where Wetiko is in an extreme form, the same applies to Ukraine.
But what is happening now in Palestine has happened all over the world to all indigenous people. We whites literally ate them, destroyed their language and culture, stole their people as slaves, stole their land and resources. We still benefit massively to this day.
Wetiko is endless, there is no limit to greed and consumption, there is always more and it only ever ends in destruction and depletion.
Our collective wetiko is so strong today we have heated our whole planet up from our massive pollution emissions. We are now the weather makers.
